Geiger Receives Maine Chamber Investor Award
Founded in 1878 and currently operated by the family's fourth generation, Geiger has been a benchmark in business success and community involvement for more than 125 years. Beginning with a staff of four in Newark, New Jersey, the promotional products company now employs more than 500 in its 140,000 square-foot facility in Lewiston. Geiger acquired the rights to the Farmers' Almanac in 1955 growing its circulation to more than four million copies annually.

Gene and Peter Geiger operate the company under the guidance of nine principles: quality customer service; creative solutions; continuous improvement; valuable employees; lasting relationships; ethical conduct; giving back to the community; profitability; and representing the high standard of excellence in the industry.

Geiger is known nationally for its commitment to excellence in education. In 1988, Geiger pioneered a school-adoption program with Lewiston's Montello Elementary School as an innovative pilot program to supporting educational aspirations. Since then, the company has helped to organize more than 35 such business-school partnerships throughout Maine. In 1991, President George H.W. Bush presented Peter Geiger with the 618th Point of Light award for pioneering the adopt-a-school concept.

The company and its employees are also involved in community programs and projects, such as Junior Achievement, ShareCenter, the United Way, the American Red Cross, Abused Women's Advocacy, St. Mary's Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph's College, the Maine Coalition for Excellence in Education, and the Girl Scouts. Geiger executives serve on countless boards and commissions as well.
